From the Head...
As I write this article the warm sun is shining through my window. On such a lovely summer's day it is hard not to appreciate the lovely locations that each part of the school is situated in. It is important that we do not allow the children to take this beautiful setting for granted.
Since Easter the Key Stage 2 children have been taking their annual assessments. The results complement the day to day progress tracking. This information makes sure that each child makes the right amount of progress and that 'gaps' in their learning are quickly identified and addressed. The teachers will share this information with you at the Parent Consultation meetings in July. Please remember that you are welcome to make an appointment to see your child's class teacher at any time through the year. Unlike many schools we also allow you to walk your children into the school building each morning so you have daily contact with the teacher for asking more immediate questions. This also gives the opportunity to share good news!
One of the questions that naturally comes up at this time of the year is 'Which class will my child be in next year and who will their teacher be?' I’m afraid that at this stage of the academic year it is too soon to make firm decisions on these matters. This is because teachers have until the end of this term to give notice of their intention to leave at the end of the academic year. Decisions regarding class teachers therefore have to wait until we know who will be with us in September. Towards the middle of next term we will also have a better idea of pupil movements into and out of the school. This gives the information needed to make the classes as balanced as possible regarding size and teacher and TA support. It is unsettling for the children if last minute changes have to be made. The school budget has also been reduced by the government cuts, so class arrangements need to be affordable.
Tuesday 6th July has been put in the diary as a 'move up' morning so the children can spend time with their new 'September' teacher.
Thank you once again for your support to the school. Parent volunteers are increasingly vital if we want to continue doing as much as we do as a school. We are a small school with limited numbers of staff and sometimes there are not enough of us to go around! This is important especially for sporting events and off site visits.
Once again I'd like to thank the PTA who continue to work tirelessly raising money on behalf of the children in the school. Many of the school trips are subsidised by the PTA to make them more affordable for parents. I know that preparations for the annual Summer Fair are well underway and I'm sure that we are all looking forward to another fantastic day.
I hope that you all enjoy the Half Term break with your children.
