Humanities

 Geography

We want our children to enjoy and understand some of the richness of our local community and its setting within The New Forest National Park. The children learn about the physical landscape and how it has been changed by human and natural intervention such as pollution, erosion, weather and climate. We use our local environment as much as possible with walks and activities around the villages and within The New Forest. Our Forest Fridays embrace our local environment and ensure that our children know how The New Forest is managed and protected.

 History

The focus is on ‘learning by enquiry’. Children are encouraged to research, ask questions, role play, listen and compare life today with past periods. There are opportunities for the children to go on educational visits and explore the local environment as well as interview visitors to the school. We follow the National Curriculum and ensure that we teach the necessary skills, knowledge and understanding through a wide variety of hands on activities.
